No Rate Increases for 4 years – My Commitment to You
If I am elected Mayor, I make this commitment to every resident of Mandurah:
No rate increases for my full 4-year term.
This is not a slogan. This is a promise. But to make this happen, you must also elect Councillors who support this vision. The Mayor cannot freeze rates alone; the Council votes on the budget each year.
That is why it is vital that you vote for Councillors who support a true 0% increase, not the vague, misleading “minimum increase” excuse.
Ratepayers Are Already Paying More Than They Should
Every year, the City of Mandurah spends millions of your hard-earned rates on important but expensive projects such as:
- Coastal erosion and sand bypassing
- Tourism campaigns and events like the Crab Festival
- Subsidising the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre
- Operating the Mandurah Aquatic & Recreation Centre
These are valuable community assets, but they should not be funded entirely by local ratepayers.
If elected, I will lead a strong advocacy push to bring in State and Federal Government funding to help cover these high-cost areas.
That means:
- Saving ratepayer dollars
- Reducing the pressure on the local budget
- Supporting tourism, arts, and coastal resilience without rate hikes
This is where the leadership and advocacy power of the Mayor truly matters.

Under the Local Government Act, the Mayor has the formal authority to advocate on behalf of the City.
While it is easy to just raise rates, it takes strong leadership and strategic lobbying to bring in external funding.
As your independent Mayor with no party-political ties, I will engage honestly and effectively with decision-makers at all levels to secure:
- Infrastructure grants
- Regional development funds
- Environmental and coastal protection support
- Tourism and event sponsorships
- Community and youth program funding
These are real, achievable funding streams and they can take the pressure off your wallet.
The Proven Track Record
You have seen me deliver before:
- I successfully lobbied and make the Lakelands Train Station a reality which was neglected nearly 20 years
- I successfully advocated and secured 14 additional police officers for Mandurah in 2022

A Smarter Approach to Spending
Freezing rates doesn’t mean cutting vital services – it means:
- Reviewing operations
- Driving internal efficiency
- Eliminating waste
- Prioritising needs over wants
I believe we can reduce $4 to $5 million in unnecessary spending annually from our $150M+ budget. That is less than 4% and it is achievable without affecting essential services and projects.
